f you pull at someone’s roots long enough, they’re bound to break free. This is exactly what happened to Jamie Stefanini, the director of The Spa at The Ford Plantation.
Jamie was born and raised in Pittsburg where she grew up alongside her cousins, hanging out at her aunt’s hair salon, “Shirley’s,” attached the house. It was there that Jamie first fell in love with the craft and decided she would follow in her aunt’s footsteps as a hairdresser.
For more than 30 years, Jamie honed her craft at a spa and salon—the only one she’d ever worked in. Under the owner’s tutelage, Jamie was trained as a master cosmetologist, skilled and certified to not only cut and style hair but also to provide manicures, pedicures and facials. She loved her coworkers and clients, many of whom became close friends. But when the salon’s owner was ready to retire, Jamie felt a tug from the South.
Jamie’s parents fled the frigid Pennsylvania winters in 2000, taking up permanent residence in Sun City, South Carolina, where they enjoy an active retirement playing tennis. More recently, her adult daughter relocated to Savannah along with her husband and two sons, ages 3 and 1. It was the grandsons that might have had the biggest pull on Jamie’s heartstrings.
“I just could not be without them,” gushes the proud grandmother.
In January 2019, Jamie and her husband, who had since retired after selling his auto repair business, left their hometown and made a major pivot southward. From there, everything fell into place.
“Jamie and I met and we just clicked,” recalls Jennifer Davies, a resident of The Ford Plantation since 2000 and chair of the Spa and Fitness Committee. Because the Spa is reserved for The Ford Plantation members, it isn’t necessary to have an entire staff on hand at all times. It does, however, make perfect sense to have one highly trained and experienced director who can provide most services on the spot and only pull from a list of massage therapists licensed in eight specialties, from Swedish and prenatal massage to physical and sports therapy, when requested.
Jamie was equally enamored with the newly renovated spa, the exquisite beauty of The Ford Plantation and the membership that embraces everyone like family—staff and residents alike. “When I saw it, I thought, ‘This place is amazing,’” Jamie enthuses.
As the Spa Director, Jamie is aligned with Ford’s mission to provide its members with exceptional wellness-oriented experiences. This means she works closely with members of the Spa and Fitness Committee (comprised of five residents and two staff) to shape and promote the growing wellness program, offering members educational seminars, socials and services focused on improving the quality of life through good nutrition, exercise and spa experiences that relax and rejuvenate.
Ford is also a perfect fit for Jamie since she lives the lifestyle she promotes. When she’s not at work, Jamie enjoys cooking healthy meals (usually an Italian dish and always with a salad), daily exercise, relaxing at the beach and, of course, spending as much time as possible with her growing family. In short, she’s living her best life right here in the South.
The Spa at The Ford Plantation offers top-of-the-line services to pamper your body and mind.
Most day spa menus feature massage, mani/pedis and facials, but as it does with everything else, The Spa at The Ford Plantation goes beyond what’s expected.
While a conventional Swedish massage is a top-notch way to unwind, sporting members may need something more intense to release tension and treat injuries. Treatments from a licensed sports massage therapist can get you back on the links, horse, bike or court faster than merely ice and rest. A session in the hydrotherapy tub—complimentary to members—is always available, situated in a private room for the ultimate in relaxation.
If you want to refresh your look, the full-service salon offers cut, color and even Keratin treatments for the whole family. Or go skin-deep with microdermabrasion, clinical peels, micro-needling treatments or Botox performed by a licensed esthetician.
Gone are the days where the Spa was considered a respite just for the ladies. Men enjoy grooming, too, and can choose from facials, waxing and other body treatments tailored to their needs.
